Below you will find an update regarding COVID and what we are seeing at the schools. We are sharing some "worst case" planning that we hope to NOT have to put into place. Hello CCSD Families & Educators, Below you will find an update regarding COVID and what we are seeing at the schools. We are sharing some "worst case" planning that we hope to NOT have to put into place. However, we'd rather plan and be ready. Teamwork, creativity, flexibility: thank you in advance for embracing all three! COVID situation We are experiencing a surge of COVID cases at Clear Creek Middle & High School that is impacting students and staff. With subs and an "all hands on deck" strategy, classes have been covered and school ran as planned yesterday (Monday). While we are closely monitoring staffing levels, we anticipate the same to be true today. We are not seeing the same at the elementary schools. Bus drivers have also been impacted. Yesterday (Monday) all routes ran on normal schedules. Every staff member who has a CDL is driving a bus. Substitute bus drivers are not available (and if there are any subs, we've hired them as full time drivers already). Similar to classroom teachers, we are closely monitoring staffing levels of drivers. What could this mean for families? Start of day: Should we not have enough drivers to drive every route, one possibility is to run routes back to back. With this option, one route of students would be picked up in the morning later (could be an hour or longer). Should this be the best and only way to get kids to school, we will message families immediately. Families could also choose to bring their kids to school at the regular time. Schools will still open doors and begin at regular times, and teachers will welcome kids as they arrive. End of day: Similar to above, running bus routes back to back would mean that one route of kids would remain at school later, approximately an hour. Again, families could choose to pick up kids at the end of the school day. Kids who are waiting for a bus to bring them home would be supervised by school staff, and in some cases our 21st Century Learning staff (think enrichments). IF this becomes a necessity, we will message families immediately. Transportation for athletics: any changes to transportation for athletics will be communicated by CCMSHS. What could this mean for educators? Educators would need to remain flexible and patient. Students could be arriving during a "window of time" in the morning. Additionally, planning ahead for any changes to school (see below) is best done now, in partnership with building leaders. Would this only impact one school or all schools? A shortage of drivers will impact more than one school (ie could impact CCMSHS and one of the elementary schools). To be sure everyone hears the same information, a message will be sent to the entire district. Are there other options? Yes. As a last resort, CCSD would move to a virtual learning day. This would mean that students would stay home and receive instruction via online, using the Google Meet platform as well as homework sent via email or another way. This option would only be used if staffing levels in classrooms/and or bussing becomes so significant that we cannot remain open. We hope to NOT use this option. How will I find out about any changes? Should there be a change to bus routes or school, we will message families and educators via Shoutpoint using both phone and email options. Additionally, we will post the message on the CCSD Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ClearCreekSchoolsCO. Fingers and toes crossed that we do not need to implement ANY of these options.
